Application

Name: Yuzu Hiragii
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Occupation: Student
Duel Information: Melodius
PB and/or Description: Those ponytails can cut you.

Personality:

The most diplomatic way to describe Yuzu would be to say that she does a very good job following in her father's footsteps. A livewire in many senses, Yuzu is exuberant, friendly and has enough confidence for two people her size. She's got a strong sense of empathy, often picking up on what those around her are feeling and, especially if it's bad, trying to help in some way. She's dutiful, especially when it comes to those close to her or her family's You Show Duel School. She's trusting - she simply does not doubt her friends. It's not a switch she could press if she knew where it was. All of these qualities make her a good friend. It's pretty simple: if Yuzu is in your corner, she's not coming out of it for diddly squat.

...the other side of being a livewire, however, is that it comes with a few other qualities. Probably more of a defining trait than all of her good ones put together is just how short Yuzu's temper is. If something bugs her, she wastes absolutely no time making it known. With her friends (especially Yuya), she usually lets it be known by way of a paper fan she always seems to keep on her and a very well-practiced smack to the head. Otherwise, she just tends to, very directly, give the offending party a piece of her mind. In this way, she can be pretty brash and argumentative. But even that in and of itself isn't always a bad thing. Yuzu is incredibly gutsy. She never backs down, especially when the subject in question has to do with her friends or her school. And even though she tends to run on the "hot" side of the spectrum a lot, it's not like she's angry all the time. She has a temper and can get irritated pretty easily, but she's also pretty good at not letting things get bottled up. Usually just expresses it and then she lets it go. The bad thing is when she's unable to let something go. Because she's an emotional sort, when something really, truly gets under her skin, it will mess her up and mess her up good. She becomes easily distracted and self-doubting, a potently bad combination for someone like her, even to the point where her dueling skill can become seriously affected.

It's worth mentioning that Yuzu has a bit of a passion for dueling. Her father runs a Dueling School and she takes her position as one of the students at that school very seriously, considering it her job to "defend" the school's reputation by giving it her all in every duel she participates in. This applies especially to Action Duels and to that effect, she puts a lot of effort into preparing from them, making sure both her deck, mind and body are sharp at all times. And if she feels any of the three getting dull, she doesn't hesitate to do something about it. Suffice it to say, she demands a lot of herself when it comes to dueling and she tends to demand the same of others in her school as well. She's clashed with her friend Yuya more than once when she thinks his particular style of Entertainment Dueling gets a little too lackadaisical. Having said that, she's no stranger to a bit of appropriate dramatics either. She understands that for all of the effort, strategy, training, etc., dueling is supposed to be fun, first and foremost, both for the duelists and those watching them. So if she feels it appropriate at the time, she doesn't mind slipping into an appropriate role. She seems to actually kind of favor playing a heel. Like, she really doesn't mind it at all.

History: Yuzu is the daughter of Shuzo Hiragi. Shuzo was a close friend of Yusho Sakaki, a pro duelist who pioneered a very unique brand of dueling that mixed the duelist, the monsters and the field of play all together. This became known as "Action Dueling" and it became very popular within Miami City as did Yusho along with it. Yusho started a prep school called the "You Show Duel School" dedicated to teaching people about Yusho's specific type of dueling and Shuzo helped him run it. As a child, Yuzu had an interest in dueling that was nurtured frequently by the school her father helped run until she decided that she too wanted to participate in Action Duels.

Unfortunately, one day, Yusho was slated to have a duel with another pro, Strong Ishijima, but failed to show up. Nobody knew how or why, but Yusho had suddenly completely disappeared. Rumors quickly abounded and the prevailing narrative became that Yusho was a coward who had skipped out on the duel and run into hiding. As Yusho was a friend of her family and his son, Yuya happened to be a friend of hers, it didn't take long for Yuzu to find this narrative incredibly distasteful and it wasn't long before she found herself barking at people who talked about what a cowardly jerk loser Yusho Sakaki was. Yusho's popularity quickly waned, as did that of You Show Duel School, which quickly dwindled down to a single digit number of students. Yuzu found that equally distasteful.

A few months later, the manager of Strong Ishijima, the duelist that had been supposed to duel Yusho, showed up at the You Show Duel School with an offer, that Yuya could duel him in his father's place in an exhibition match. Yuzu initially had misgivings about it, feeling as if they were trying to manipulate Yuya, but she supported him nonetheless when he went through with it and when he preformed an entirely new type of summon called a Pendulum Summon in the middle of the duel and won, she was both positively gobsmacked and elated for him.

Defeating Strong Ishijima quickly rekindled people's interest in the You Show Duel School and Yuzu got into a duel with Yuya to demonstrate the Pendulum Summon to all their newly interested arrivals. Yuzu, not understanding the method behind Pendulum Summon at all, just kind of tried to roll with it and wound up winning when Yuya proved to not fully understand it himself either. Shortly after, Yuya showed the cards he'd used to preform the summon, "Pendulum Cards" to the new arrivals and they quickly dismissed the cards as fake and Yuya as a cheater. Yuzu also found this distasteful. She then became dedicated to helping Yuya master Pendulum Summon and after 271 short (read: long, kind of excruciating, didn't get any sleep, but she put up with it because he's her friend dangit) attempts, he successfully got the summoning method down and was the only one capable of using Pendulum Summoning.

Then I2 began printing their own Pendulum Cards and instructions for them and suddenly, everybody was capable of it (and it didn't even take them 271 tries). Yuzu found that to be distasteful and kind of a rip-off, but not as much as all the other stuff.

A little while after Pendulum Summons became ubiquitous, Yuya received an offer from the headmaster of Duel Academy in Domino City to enroll in their school. Yuzu supported him and was glad to see him get into one of the most prestigious dueling schools in the world because of his Pendulum Cards, but Yuzu couldn't help but feel a little conflicted as well. Domino City wasn't exactly a stone's throw away from Miami City. Part of her wanted him to stay with them in Miami City, part of her wanted to go with him, enroll in Duel Academy and grow as a duelist as well. But Yuzu also felt a strong sense of duty to her own duel school and couldn't just up and abandon it and whittle away its already small numbers even further.

While Yuzu was feeling conflicted over this, her father Shuzo came to her with an offer to try and set her mind at ease. She could go to Domino City, enroll in Duel Academy and help Yuya spread the word about Action Dueling and their duel school. Domino City was the dueling capital of the world in many respects, so if there was anywhere that they could gain exposure for themselves, it was there. In truth, Shuzo just made the offer to put his daughter's mind at ease and allow her to go enroll at Duel Academy with a clear conscience (something she did kind of realize), but at any rate, Yuzu accepted and got herself set up to take an entrance exam, which she's currently waiting for.

Abilities: Her paper fan skills are deadly. She also has a bracelet with a red gem set in the middle that may or may not have some supernatural property to it.

Why is your character here?: MAGIC BRACELET?!?!?!?!?!?!?
